Gingival
recontouring is sometimes necessary to take a smile from mediocrity to
perfection. The gingiva (gums) are to a smile what the matting is to a
picture. The right amount of gingival display that is symmetrical during
an uninhibited grin is pleasing to the viewer because it highlights the
main feature of the picture, the teeth. Proper gingival health is essential
for proper tooth health, so careful consideration must be given to which
procedure is necessary to accomplish the goal without causing detriment
to gingival health. We perform gingival grafts, gingivoplasty and crown
lengthening. If excessive gingival display is secondary to a skeletal
or lip malady, we refer to oral or plastic surgeons here at our facility.
